Why read books ?
Posted On 4/19/2013 11:05:01 AM By-Raj
Part of Speech By Charlie Munger, ViceChairman of Berkshire Hathaway and a longtime partner of the legendary investor Warren Buffett

Wisdom acquisition is a moral duty. Itís not something you do just to advance in life. As a corollary to that proposition which is very important, it means that you are hooked for lifetime learning. And without lifetime learning, you people are not going to do very well. You are not going to get very far in life based on what you already know. Youíre going to advance in life by what you learn after you leave this lecture.

I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you.

Öso if civilization can progress only with an advanced method of invention, you can progress only when you learn the method of learning.

Nothing has served me better in my long life than continuous learning.

My comments

Lets keep reminding ourselves
"You are not going to get very far in life based on what you already know."

This guy is not talking about learning and wisdom acquisition from our ordinary environment ( if not less than ordinary) and ordinary circle of people.
Then how are we going to learn and acquire wisdom. By seeing T.V.(idiot box) or reading newspaper ( We only get to read what these editors want us to read, not the real knowledge that we need) ? ?

What is the way out ? Getting a good guru or reading books are the only way out.
Getting a good guru also seems difficult and moreover I donít see any guru who gives our all this Spiritual, Professional and General knowledge.

THUS ONLY AND ONLY WAY OUT IS READING BOOKS. ( No, Not fictions)

Or else we should never crib about our luck/bad luck, less money, bad health and unhappy life.

Only we are responsible for all this.

Happy life is just few books away.

Take it or leave it !
